EYECANDYAIR Airbrushed Goalie Mask Painting Featured Goalie

EYECANDYAIR was able to catch up with a member of our goalie family
Angelo Arias from Davis, CA
To do this special exclusive one-on-one interview!

ECA: What inspired you to be a goalie?
AA: I had played street hockey and floor hockey way back in high school with my buddies, but never on ice. I eventually got to ice hockey, but as a forward just skating in pickups and sticktimes. One day I just got tired of skating and I started pretending I was a goalie in my forward gear. The following week I grabbed some old bantam level gear (still fit me, goes to show how truly short/small I am) from a friend of mine who used to play and used it at the sticktime. The rest is history! It's really the position I was meant to play

ECA: How old were you when you started?
AA: I got interested in hockey when I was 13... didn't ice skate till I was 20, and started goaltending (on ice) at 24.

ECA: What is the highest level you have played?
AA: College hockey! (PCHA)

ECA: Did you ever have a goalie coach?
AA: I have one now, and have had several goalies lend me advice at sessions since I am still relatively new to the position. It's been great how supportive almost all of those goalies have been.

ECA: What style of goaltending do you play?
AA: Hmm, if this was 1993 I'd be considered a flopper. I'm butterfly, but probably only because I can't be called a standup at all. And I hate Hasek.

ECA: How many times a week do you play?
AA: I typically play 3 times a week, up to 6, depending on whether other teams need me to fill in (beer league).

ECA: What are your strengths?
AA: Nobody can say that I ever give up on a play.

ECA: Care to add weaknesses?
AA: I have to play bigger.

ECA: Who is your favourite NHL goalie?
AA: Curtis Joseph. It shows in my puckhandling and flopping.

ECA: What type of gear are you wearing?
AA: I'm wearing a Stacey Composites mask, along with TPS Xceed Lundqvist pads and I'm absolutely bananas for the new Itech 12.8 gloves.

ECA: Do you have any game superstitions?
AA: Not really superstitions, but I do like to run before games and I like tapping the posts pretty frequently.

ECA: Any advice to other goalies out there?
AA: Ain't never too late to start. Oh, and EYECANDYAIR rules. They take awesome care of you!
